Underground Utility/Pipe and Cable Locating

We use a combination of radio frequency locating and ground penetrating radar, to locate and identify underground pipes, cables and utilities.

Using Electromagnetic Frequency technology (EMF), we can locate your conductive services i.e. Telstra, Electrical, Water (Copper Material), Gas (Copper Material) etc. Marking these services out and providing depths and alignment will provide you peace of mind before you break ground.

Any services that are not conductive can still be located using the other methods provided by us (see service list below).

Electronic detection is by far the most safe and accurate method of locating underground services. We use EMF technology to locate pipes and cables beneath the surface. There are numerous ways to create an EMF around a service with the most accurate being direct connection or clamping around it at a known point (i.e. from a pit or manhole or where comes out of the ground).

Then using a receiver, we can ‘trace’ the alignment and depth of the service in question. Our team have decades of experience and training to use the best method and frequencies to better suit the individual job.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)

A Ground Penetrating Radar is used to locate utilities beneath concrete slabs and structures, and to detect electrical faults.

GPR is a geophysical method that uses radar pulses to image the subsurface. It is a non-intrusive method of locating underground services and structures such as service pipes & cables, concrete culverts, buried tanks and more. Although the equipment often can’t tell you the exact size and shape of materials such as pipes, the GPR will give you an excellent idea of exactly where the pipe is located.

Using this technology accompanied with the EMF locating we can cover all of the services within your work area.

Concrete / Slab Scanning (High Frequency GPR)

High Frequency GPR is used to locate utilities, conduits, steel and reinforcement that are encased in the concrete.

Using the Leica C-Thrue Georadar we can locate and mark out rebar, voids, post-tension cables, cavities, conduits and any other structures buried in the concrete before cutting or drilling. This will be all recorded in our Scanning Report that will be emailed to you at the completion of work.

CCTV Push Camera (with recording capabilities)

Using a CCTV Push Camera, we can locate and inspect underground infrastructures thoroughly and efficiently, and identify and mark the exact location of any defects.

Using the Vivax Metrotech camera system we can not only inspect pipes for pre and post construction, blockages etc, we can also trace the length of the pipe to the camera head (using the traceable optic fibre cabling) and with Vivax’s multiple sonde settings we can pinpoint the location of the camera head.

Leak Dectection / Acoustic Water Service Locating for Plastic Pipes

Our non evasive water leak detection equipment, enables us to detect the precise location of the leak.

Using our Aquaphon water leak detection system & equipment, we are able to find water leaks in domestic property’s and supply an onsite report of the location of the leak. Accompanying the Auauphon with a “Pulse Wave Generator” (little Tumpa) we can also locate plastic water pipes which are usually untraceable.

Onsite reporting of all services provided

Our same day delivery of our Service Reports (for ALL services) will include photos of the locate services as well as pipe size and configuration (i.e. 100mm PVC Water Main or 3x 100mm Communication Conduits), depth of service and an off-set measurement from a permanent structure. This will enable you to remark all the services (if work has been delayed for any reason) in your work area again before construction.
